Using SAP Assessment Management to 'test out' of compliance training

One common use for SAP Assessment Management by Questionmark is to allow testing out of regulatory compliance required training.  'Testing out' is when someone who is required to undergo some training instead takes a test to see if they know the material already.  If they pass the test, they skip the training.

If employees already know something well, then training them in it again can be a waste of resources and motivation. By forcing people to attend training they feel is unnecessary, you can reduce the credibility of your whole compliance initiative. Employees may feel that you are just crossing a task off your list, not really caring about what matters to them and the business. And it can devalue other compliance training as well.

SAP’s Community Network SCN has a wealth of information on using SAP software. Questionmark’s Chairman, John Kleeman, has been posting several articles on the business benefits of SAP Assessment Management by Questionmark there. If you’re interested in learning more about good practices for testing out of training and also some practical advice for making the business case internally for testing out of training, see his article via the link below.

How Assessments Improve Learning Outcomes and Efficiencies for Talent Management

Most companies will require that their employee knowledge is certified through an assessment or exam to improve the learning outcome. For example, some companies require a completion of a short quiz or test as a follow-up to a webinar to ensure the employee has met compliance in certain area of performing their role. The outcome of the knowledge can be crucial when considering employees to fill key roles in high stakes environments.

Certifying external candidates through assessment management is equally important when considering what resources have the right skills and proven knowledge when making sound hiring decisions. Assessments can help make or break solid decisions around identifying the right candidate to fill a key role, which essentially has an impact on corporate performance and the bottom line.

As data drives decisions, there is an increasing amount of information around using big data in the area of assessments.   The recent book, The Human Face of Big Data created by Rick Smolan and Jennifer Erwitt address this area.   Analytics and big data provide critical data and reporting capabilities needed to uncover the meaning hidden within assessment results and the ability to analyze and share data stakeholders.

Assess Skills, Knowledge and Attitudes

Learning @ the Speed of Change

Organizations across industries perform assessments for many reasons.  With the SAP Assessment Management application by Questionmark, you can access a secure, browser-based environment to meet your Assessment needs.

The need to assess knowledge, skills, and attitudes is at an all-time high, whether to measure knowledge or to qualify individuals for employment or regulatory compliance. Why are companies investing to ensure they can efficiently create, deliver, and report surveys, quizzes, tests, and exams? This article examines that question, considers various assessment approaches, and provides a first look at the new SAP Assessment Management application by Questionmark.

Assessments have many different applications across a broad spectrum of industries. From certification exams and pre-employment tests to job task evaluations and employee attitude surveys, assessments capture information that can be collected, analyzed, and shared.

Why are organizations investing in assessment technology?

Many business requirements are driving organizations to invest in effective assessment programs and technologies. Reasons may include:

  • Regulatory compliance. Assessments are essential and sometimes mandated to demonstrate compliance and mitigate risk. Assessments help ensure knowledge of essential laws and regulations, and they can improve knowledge and adherence to health and safety guidelines.
  • Sales channel and technical channel verification. Do your sales people – or your channel partner’s sale people – have the knowledge and skills to represent and effectively sell your products and services? How about your technicians – or your channel partners’ technicians? Do they have the knowledge and skills necessary to fix a problem on the first call? Effective use of assessments for channel verification decreases cost, and increases revenues and customer satisfaction.
  • Qualification and certification. When you get into higher-stakes assessments aimed at qualifying or certifying the knowledge, skills and abilities of people—or for making sound hiring decisions—you need an assessment management system with the authoring, delivery and reporting features the enable reliable, defensible tests and exams.

The Training profession use assessments to measure and enhance learning. Quizzes, tests, and exams measure knowledge, skills, and abilities before, during, and after training. And assessments can enhance learning by correcting misconceptions and increasing knowledge retention.

With SAP Assessment Management, your organization can create a secure, browser-based environment for developing assessment materials collaboratively and distributing them through computers, tablets, smartphones, and other multi-touch devices.

SAP Assessment Management makes it easier to create effective assessments by providing feedback on the quality of the questions and answers. This allows you to improve any questions that aren’t effective (too easy, too hard, too ambiguous) to ensure that you are truly testing the knowledge of those taking the assessment. You can evaluate results and inform stakeholders with timely, meaningful reports using the application’s extensive reporting and analytics functionality.

This solution is available as an on-premise edition for implementing the software onsite, or as a cloud edition for on-demand deployment that you can scale up during peak assessment periods. The cloud edition runs on a highly secure platform to help ensure the protection of valuable test content, results, and personally identifiable information.

Mobile Assessments with SAP Assessment Management by Questionmark

Expand your delivery options with mobile device delivery and embedded assessments - With so many learners frequently on the go, smart phones and other handheld devices are ideal for delivering low-stakes assessments.

Mobile Delivery of Quizzes, Surveys and Practice Tests

The need for a workforce to be mobile is increasing rapidly every year and with so many learners frequently on the go, smart phones and other handheld devices are ideal for delivering low-stakes assessments. A few great examples of using Assessments on the go are:

  • Quick follow-up quizzes
  • Practice tests and study materials
  • Surveys and course evaluations
  • Apps for iOS and Android

The SAP Assessment Management Apps for Android™ and for Apple® iPhone® and iPad™ gives participants one-touch access to assessments that have been specifically scheduled for them:

  • The Splash screen can be branded to your organization's look and feel
  • Can easily be configured by participants to point to your SAP Assessment Management repository
  • Once the app is configured, it will automatically direct participants to your SAP Assessment Management server each subsequent time they launch it
Scan a QR Code to Launch Practice Tests or Surveys

Quick-Response (QR) codes are a form of barcode that can be scanned by a mobile phone camera and decoded by an app. These codes can be particularly useful for survey and practice test URLs:

  • Provide candidate quick and easy to access the right URL (no typing required)
  • Data easily captured (no typing required) via URL
  • More thorough analysis of results by demographic
Responsive Design

Questionmark's responsive design delivery technologies make it easier than ever to deliver assessments to multiple different types of smartphones, tablets and other mobile, touch and multi-touch devices.

Observational Assessment

In a traditional assessment - for example, a quiz, test or exam - the participant is presented with questions for direct response. In an Observational Assessment, an "observer" is presented with questions to ‘rate’ participant behaviors, skills and abilities, such as:

  • Performance of a specific task or procedure
  • Knowledge acquisition and application
  • Demonstration of skills/abilities

SAP Assessment Management's mobile delivery capabilities give SAP Assessment Management users enhanced flexibility to conduct observational assessments when they need to, where they need to - with results instantly saved to the central repository for analysis and reporting to stakeholders.

The SAP Assessment Management application by Questionmark streamlines the authoring of assessment materials, distribution in multiple languages, accessibility across device types, and analysis and reporting of assessment results. You can implement the on premise edition on your organization’s servers or opt for the cloud edition that provides a fully scalable software-as-a-service offering for on-demand deployment.

Using SAP Assessment Management to 'test out' of compliance training

'Testing out' is when someone who is required to undergo some training instead takes a test to see if they know the material already.  If they pass the test, they skip the training.

One common use for SAP Assessment Management by Questionmark is to allow testing out of regulatory compliance required training.

If you are working in compliance training, you need to check your regulator's business rules, but most regulators will allow people to test out of compliance training in this way. There can be significant business benefits in saving your workforce time, so that only the people who need training attend it.

SAP Uses Questionmark for Certification

SAP Education have used Questionmark to deliver SAP Consultant exams since 2007.  Since that time over 350,000 candidates have sat exams at SAP education centres using Questionmark software.

In 2007, SAP Education chose Questionmark to partner with to deliver their entire certification programme.  SAP needed a robust, secure and scalable system to allow over 60,000 people annually to sit their consultant exams at SAP sites.

Key to the choice of Questionmark was the ability to offer an integrated, blended worldwide delivery system in multiple languages.  Currently there are over 300 certifications available in up to 20 different languages.

Since 2007, there have been over 350,000 Certifications completed through the partnership with Questionmark. Test takers can schedule their exams either at the end of their training or at a separate testing event and receive their results immediately on completing their exam. With SAP's previous certification solution, participants had to wait up to three weeks before finding out their result.
